Project 1 Self Reflection

In the first assignment, we were tasked with expressing our own identity through architecture. This assignment was submitted online in a group padlet. I've chosen Cairns Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre, Australia as my reflective case study. The visitor centre reflects my own expression on self with a facade which conforms to surroundings but still maintain self expression through distortion. A constant flow on the surface, while possessing hidden functions.

After this project, expressing myself through architecture was clear. An in depth analysis of my own identity comparing with architecture was well rewarded with insights and understanding of both identities.

Project 2 Survey

A survey was conducted to further gain data on what is identity and what makes a nation's identity. Our group conducted this survey with the targeted group of elderlies. The findings were compiled and presented.

Through the survey, a distinct mindset of different generation may be concluded. This helps in understanding various points of view on a nations's identiy.

Project 3 Create Your Own Nation

In this final project, we are to create our own nation in a group of 7 based on our findings and understanding from the previous assignments. We are to chose our own government type, national religion, political aims, identity of citizens and architecture style, and thus justify them. A group presentation was conducted with a video, and an individual essay was to be submitted.

After conducting this project, aspects which makes a nation was understood. Unique elements within the nation affects the architectural style. Understanding of culture, history and architectural theories was obtain from this project.
