Design Studio 1
Architectural Design Studio 1 is an introduction to architectural design. Themed
“Body and Space”, this studio aims and emphasises to present and explore design through the expression of the ‘self’ and the body through the spaces created through design.
Project 1 Self-Expression through Object ‘REPRESENTING ME’
The purpose of the project is for us to unravel the creative side and inner self through various mode
of communication or art form. We are to generate ideas from self-identity through personal
interests, preferences, attitude and personality. Then create an abstract model to represent it.
Project 2 Self Expression through Architectural Space’ LIFE CAPSULE’
In this project we are to study the ergonomics of the human body co-relating to the space. Then we are to create a life capsule of a chosen client which they may go on with their daily life. we are to create and design to fully utilise the space. A 1:1 scale of the life capsule is required.
Project 3 Dreamscape for the Self ‘HIDE OUT’
In this project we are required to design a dream space, a hideout for our chosen client. The hideout is to be attached to an alley in an imagined city.
3A
The task in 3A is for us to form a group of 5 to review a movie, in our case "Inception", and from there grasp the concept of the movie. Thus design and create 2 blocks of building which creates an alley way for our hideout.
We are to produce a 1:50 scale model of the proposed site.
3B
Task 3B is our final project. In this assignment, we are to create a hideout for our chosen client. I have chosen Bruce Lee as my client. The hideout must include maximum of 3 spaces plus a bathroom. The design and function of the hideout must be heavily influenced by the personality and interest of our client. A 1:50 scale model is required.
Reflection
In design studio 1, I have learned a lot and I've realised that I have much more to learn. In studio 1 I've understood spaces and the uses as well as ergonomics and utilising and not wasting spaces.
