DESIGN COMMUNICATION ARC1713
In this module, it introduces basic skills for the appropriate communication of architectural design. It engages different means of visualisation and expression of space and spatial ideas through architectural drawings. We are taught through a series of freehand, constructed drawing, and architectural modelling held both outdoors and in the studio.
Project 1a: On-Site Sketching
In this assignment 1A, we are required to sketch out the site as per how we experience through a spatial sequence. We are to observe and record the spaces and human activities on our chosen site though free hand sketches.
Project 1b: Tonal Values
In this assignment/exercise, we are to shade using different styles such as stippling, scribbling, hatching and cross hatching to create different tonal values. This is to communicate using different tonal and depth values.
Project 2a: Orthographic Projections
In project 2A, we are to draft a plan, elevation and section of The Barcelona Pavilion. We are to record and present clear and legible architectural information manually. We are to demonstrate line weight and line quality clearly using technical pen.
Project 2b: Axonometric Projections
The objective of project 2B is to draw an axonometric projection. We are to apply the basic principles of axonometric projection to express spatial ideas and architectural detail in 3 dimension.
Project 2c: Axonometric Projections
In project 2C, we are to create a 2-point perspective and 1-point perspective. We are to apply the basic principles of correct line weight and the correct perspective.
Project 3: Finishing & Presentation
In project 3, we are to correctly produce a plan, section, elevation and perspectives or axonometric drawing. This assignment is co-related to Design Studio 1. The drawings are from the final project of design studio 1, hideout.
Reflection
In this module, I've learned the importance of proper technical drawing. This includes proper line weight, line quality, proper measurements and much more.
